Houston William P. Hobby Airport

Hobby was Houston's main airport until the opening of George Bush Intercontinental Airport in 1969. Like Dallas Love, most airlines relocated to the new airport in spite of the new airports far afield location. Southwest was one of the few carriers to serve Hobby when it launched in 1971, with Hobby's close-in location making it much more convenient to most of the city than IAH. Now, American, Continental, Air Tran and Delta offer limited service to their hub cities, but Southwest continues to dominate the traffic. Hobby is in the midst of an extensive rebuild with a new ticketing hall and concourses opening. Old concourses such as the cramped Terminal A are B are due to be torn down once the new C is in full operation. The old ticket hall has been merged into the new one in a creative fashion until it too is razed in the future.

Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-200

These are a rare site these days for Southwest especially with the 737 NG's coming on-line. The Dash 200 Series serves mainly Texas and Louisiana destinations as it begins to be phased out.
