Jacksonville, Florida International Airport
JIA is a typical mid-size market airport, with service by all major US carriers and LCCs to their hub cities. Not surprisingly, Southwest has emerged as the dominant player there. Unlike most major Florida airports, JIA caters to local and business traffic over tourism.

The ticketing area and security concourse were remodeled in time for the 2005 Super Bowl in Stage One. As depicted in the model plan, there is a master plan (Stage Two) to demolish and rebuild new concourses. The "front door" ticketing/security areas areattractive, spacious, and modern while the three concourse wings are dated and cramped. The airport was was opened on October 31, 1968, replacing the previous Imeson Airport. It is co-located with a military base.

"The New meets The New". Southwest, only commencing service at JIA in 1996/97, is the #1 carrier there followed by Delta.

These dated 1960s design concourses are destined for demolition and replacement as depicted in the model below.

JIA Master Expansion Plan Model
The ticketing hall and security connector/shopping annex has already been completed in Stage One of the expansion. Stage Two will be a complete rebuild of the airside complex.

Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300
Delta is the #2 operator at JIA, and flies the largest aircraft into the airport. The 767s are used on flights to Atlanta and occassionally New York. Delta is rare, in that it often operates widebodies on very short haul stages particularly to and from Florida and between its hubs.
