4 United DC-10’s
Just off the strip, United Airlines uses Las Vegas McCarran Airport for storage of many of it’s unwanted aircraft. These 4 DC-10s were eventually and broken up.
United DC-10
When these shots were taken in 1998, United’s only DC-10s still operating were 3 DC-10-30’s as freighters. The engines had already removed, but would need to be re-fitted before being ferried out as Las Vegas has no scrappers on site.
747-200
United pulled the 747-200s out of mainline service by 1998. Once the queen of the fleet, the last Classic’s still flying by the time were designated to the Hawaiian markets.
Boeing 747SP
United acquired Pan Am 747 SPs when it took over the latter’s Asian routes in 1986. Once the 400s reached critical mass, the SPs were the first to be parked, and eventually salvaged.
TWA L-1011
Shown in the final TWA livery, this L-1011 was one of the last TWA Tri-Stars operated before they were retired at the end of 1996. TWA, along with Eastern and Delta, was the launch operator of this technically sophisticated (for it’s time) aircraft.

McCarren Airport Model Display Case
In the ticket hall of Las Vegas McCarren Airport is a small case of model aircraft representing airlines that had served the airport.
