Las Vegas McCarran International Airport
LAS is the world's 9th busiest airport. LAS has 4 very long runways from 8,000 to 14,000 feet to accomodate long take-off rolls in its scorching hot summer conditions. The airport is divided between 2 terminals: Terminal One, featuring 4 concoruses A-D, is the major home of U.S. domestic airlines while much smaller single concourseTerminal Two is the base of international airlines and U.S. Charters. Southwest is the #1 airline here, with US Airways (formerly America West) a close #2. For a time, LAS was the HQ of National and Bonanza Airlines. It is a fascinating market, with huge banks of airline departures and arrivals at all hours to combat its low yield tourist driven market. Beyond the unusual traffic patterns, the terminal slot machines make it very unusual.
