of Air California's first timetables. It was well ahead of it's time in
promoting service to satellite, less congested airports such as Orange
County and Oakland.

Air California was founded in 1968 in Orange County with Electra’s
flying to the Bay Area from this close-in LA area airport. In 1981, the
airline would re-brand as Air Cal. |

April 1, 1981
1981 was a milestone
year for Air California as it introduced new branding. From 1981 until
its sale to American, the airline was known as AirCal. A very attractive
livery, inspired by the Sal Bass Frontier livery, was introduced at the
same time.

Orange country AirCal operated MD-80s and 737s from Seattle to Orange County
before it was finally taken over by American Airlines on July 1, 1987. |
