December 1981
Alaska inagurated service to the oil rich area of the North Slope of Alaska.
Traditionally, Alaska was strongest in the Panhandle while Wien dominated

September 5, 2001
1 week before September 11, 2001, Alaska inaugurated it’s first transcon
flights to Washington’s Reagan National Airport using 737-NG’s.
With the immediate closure of National on 9/11, flights didn’t resume
until November 2001. At this point all 727’s had long left the all
MD-80 and 737 NG fleet. Mexican services began in the mid-80s. Since this
time, Alaska has inagurated transcon service from Seattle to Boston, New
York, and Miami. Chicago has come on-line with service to Anchorage. |
