26, 1970 Piedmont’s Martin 404s were retired in 1970 as more 727s and 737s came on line, joining the NAMC YS-11 Turboprops. The route map was a classic point-to-point feeder operation. |

| December 1, 1979 Piedmont evolved massively during the 1970s with services as far west as Denver and DFW, and services as far south as Florida. Piedmont’s first real hub would open in 1981 in Charlotte. The fleet was confined to 737s and NAMC YS-11s at the time. |

| June 1, 1985 Piedmont introduced the737-300 in 1985. |

| June 1, 1989 In the 80’s Piedmont became a major carrier launching trans-Atlantic flights to London Gatwick in 1987 with 767-200s. Also service now extended to the U.S. West Coast, the Bahamas, and Bermuda. Hubs were located at Charlotte, Dayton, and Baltimore. US Air purchased Piedmont on December 31, 1988 and on August 5, 1989 Piedmont was folded fully into USAir. This is Piedmont’s last independent schedule. |
