Wien Alaska gave Alaskan Airlines
a run for it’s money from it’s founding in the 30s as a bush
operation until the end in 1983. Whereas Alaskan concentrated on Seattle,
the Panhandle of Alaska, and Anchorage, Wien focused on the harsher northern
parts of the state. It flew 737s, 737 Combis, and 727s.

With Alaska under assault from
a resurgent Alaska Airlines, Wien looked to the lower 48 for a major expansion.
Wien, the second oldest airline in America at the time, would fail in
November of 1984. |
