The Henry Ford Museum is like a mini "Smithsonian of the Midwest", of course it's not so "mini". This vast complex goes far beyond the automobile with stunning displays of aviation, pop culture, histroy, and architecture. Set aside a full day or two for this awesome experience.
Boeing Model 40B
This was Boeing's first commercial mail and passenger aircraft (barely).
Admiral Byrd's Ford Tri-Motor
This was the first plane to fly overf the South Pole. Fokker insisted on having his company's name on the side of the plane for Ford to use its engines.
Northwest Airlines Douglas DC-3
This DC-3 flew for Eastern, Northwest, and North Central. When it was donated to the Henry Ford in 1975, it had the most hours of flight time of any airplane in history. This record has since been broken.
Spirit of St. Louis Movie Replica
One of 3 replicas made for the movie, this was once owned by the movie's star Jimmy Stewart.
