Eastern Airlines DC-3
This Eastern Airlines DC-3 served from 1935-53 for Captain Eddie’s Great Falcon Fleet. At the time of it’s retirement, it was Eastern’s high time DC-3. The DC-3’s were replaced by Martin 202’s in the mid 50’s.
Fairchild FC-2
This Fairchild FC-2 was of the same type which inaugurated Pan Am’s first flight in 1928. PA’s first route was carrying mail between Key West and Havana. This example is painted in Pan Am’s South American subsidiary, Grace. Eventually Grace became PANAGRA before being sold off to Braniff in the 60’s.
Ford Tri-Motor
Introduced in 1929, the Ford Tri-Motor was a solid, reliable aircraft yet loathed by aircrews for it’s heavy handling and passengers for its rough ride.
American Airlines DC-7
The DC-7 was the queen of the skies from 1953-1958 at the twilight of the piston age, before the 707s and DC-8 quickly relegated them to second tier and freighter status. The DC-7 inaugurated non-stop coast-to-coast service in November 1953. The cockpit and front cabin of Flagship Vermont are preserved for walk throughs.
Boeing 247
The first modern airliner was the Boeing 247, seen here in it’s original United livery. The 247 was upstaged by the Douglas DC-2’s of TWA a year after it began service in 1933.
